Orphan Works.

If Orphan works legislation is passed in the USA it will affect all photographers, living and deceased. (Their estates)

It will allow copyright infringers to escape penalties if they can prove they "tried" to find the copyright owner. How much of an effort, is vague. 

PhotographersIndex.com was created years ago to find photographers world-wide. So, if you have a FREE listing, you can be found easily.  This may neutralize some of the negative effects of Orphan Works.

Professional Organizations, and others, are also working to create registries for their members, but with 20,000 photographers world-wide already listed, PhotographersIndex.com has a huge head start. We would like to share this advantage with any organization that is interested.
